How SMP Scar Camouflage Works

Scar tissue on the scalp often appears lighter or smoother than the surrounding skin, making it stand out — especially with short hair. SMP scar camouflage deposits pigment directly into and around the scar to replicate the appearance of hair follicles, blending the scar into the surrounding scalp.

At Union Barber SMP, our artists carefully match the pigment color to your existing hair and skin tone. We work across the scar tissue and feather into the surrounding area for a seamless, natural transition. The result: your scar becomes virtually undetectable, even up close.

What types of scars can SMP cover?+
SMP can effectively camouflage FUE (follicular unit extraction) dot scars, FUT (follicular unit transplant) strip scars, surgical scars from head procedures, accident or injury scars, and burn scars on the scalp. The pigment is matched to your existing hair and skin tone for seamless blending.
How many sessions does scar camouflage take?+
Most scar camouflage treatments require 1-2 sessions. Simple scars may only need one session, while larger or more complex scarring may require two sessions spaced 14-30 days apart. Each session lasts 1-3 hours depending on scar size.
Can SMP hide a hair transplant scar?+
Yes. SMP scar camouflage is one of the most popular treatments for concealing hair transplant scars. Whether you have a linear FUT strip scar or scattered FUE dot scars, SMP deposits pigment within the scar tissue to match the surrounding area, making the scar virtually undetectable.
Does SMP work on raised or keloid scars?+
SMP works best on flat scars. Mildly raised scars can often be treated effectively. Significantly raised or keloid scars may require assessment during consultation to determine the best approach. Our artists will give you an honest evaluation of expected results.
How long do scar camouflage results last?+
SMP scar camouflage results are permanent. The pigment is deposited into the dermal layer. Some fading may occur over 4-6 years depending on skin type and sun exposure, and simple touch-ups can maintain the results indefinitely.
